Andrea Allen

Andrea began her banding career with the local silver band in 1991 and quickly progressed to the then first section, ‘A’ Band, originally occupying the bass trombone chair before taking over the principal seat.  She was also involved with many jazz and dance bands amongst which included a spell with the Midland Youth Jazz Orchestra organisation.

Andrea then went on to study a degree in music and educational studies and during her second year she began conducting a local wind band, the Nantwich and District Band. Throughout her degree, her trombone performance continued with various brass bands and Birmingham-based dance bands performing at various gigs, including venues such as The Bear and Ronnie Scotts.

After graduation, Andrea then completed teacher training in secondary music.  During this time, she took over as musical director for Melbourne Town Band, followed by a short spell as musical director for the Melton Band before taking a maternity break.

Returning to conducting following the birth of her two children, Andrea spent the next five years conducting Hathern Concert Brass. She then went on to become one of the founding members of the Ibstock Community Band, taking on the role of Musical Director – a position she has continued with since its formation.

When not conducting or teaching, Andrea is a keen parkrunner and parkrun volunteer.
