Judy Nicol, LTCL, ALCM

At the age of 13 Judy started playing the Eb Horn,  at 17 she discovered the Saxophone, followed by the Clarinet and Flute, and by the age of 21 had gained three Grade 8′s.  In 1989 she gained her first diploma (ALCM) and three years later her teaching diploma (LTCL).

Judy has been teaching in Loughborough and surrounding areas for over 30 years, both in schools and privately.  As if that wasn’t enough, she has been performing in bands for all of that time in small groups, ensembles, big bands, wind bands and various shows.  She ran her own Glenn Miller style big band for many years, which later became an eight piece dance band, and two saxophone ensembles which have raised many thousands of pounds for local charities.  Judy has always run smaller ensembles of pupils and put on many concerts giving them a chance to perform in front of an audience.

The formation of the Charnwood Concert Band in 1994 started off a whole new interest in conducting and in 2008 Judy undertook a conducting course studying with Mark Heron.  Now, 18 years later there are three bands which cater for all standards and ages of musician.

Obviously, this is not a one-man band (no pun intended) and we are lucky to have an enthusiastic team of volunteers who cope with the running of all the bands, putting on concerts, enrolling new members, organising tours and social events etc.
