Vacancy: Musical Director
Application deadline: Friday 17th January 2025
To join: Spring/Summer 2025
Charnwood Symphonic Wind Orchestra (CSWO) is a symphonic wind orchestra based in Loughborough. The orchestra is the senior band in a group of 3 bands which range from a training band up to CSWO. The group has been running for nearly 30 years and was founded by Judy Nicol – a well-loved music teacher in the Loughborough area. We welcome musicians of all ages and abilities to come and make music in whichever band they feel comfortable. Some of our members play different instruments in more than one of the bands.
CSWO currently has 35+ active members and we rehearse on Sunday evenings during term-time in Loughborough. We have an extensive music library and play a wide music repertoire including classics, popular and light music, marches, music from films and shows, and more demanding works written or arranged specifically for wind band.
We perform 5-7 concerts each year, including bandstands, community events and formal concerts. We play annually at the Mayor’s Christmas Carol service at the parish church in Loughborough, also at Chatsworth House in the summer. In the past we have been on tour in the UK and northern Europe and we have plans for a tour in the summer of 2025.
We are looking for someone who would enjoy the challenge of bringing the best out of the band whilst working in a friendly community atmosphere. The Musical Director is responsible to the Committee and will manage all musical matters, including conducting, rehearsal schedules and programme selection. This is a freelance paid position. The band is funded entirely by membership from band members and performance fees.
